Hiawatha’s Wedding Feast Samuel Coleridge-Taylor
Savannah Philharmonic Chorus
Stephen Dobson, tenor
Symphony No. 9 “From the New World” Dvořák
Dvořák’s beloved Symphony No. 9, with its well-known melodies inspired by Longfellow’s Hiawatha, is the centerpiece of this powerful concert. The Savannah Philharmonic Chorus joins the orchestra in another work based on the same source by African-British composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. These masterpieces use traditional American melodies to paint scenes of miracle and marvel; it all adds up to a memorable evening.
